Artistic Practice

Adriana Bernet paints expressively, primarily on a large scale, using acrylics and mixed media. During the painting process, she works on the floor, allowing herself to become fully immersed in the transformation through focused, dynamic movement.

Her paintings explore the tension between opposites: stillness and movement, delicacy and expression, control and chance. These polarities shape not only the painting process, but the visual language itself. Colour becomes a carrier of emotion, an energy in its own right. Contrasting tones often meet: cool nuances alongside warm earth tones, light areas interrupted by dark, powerful layers. This creates an inner dynamic that does not seek balance, but resonance.

Adriana Bernet’s works possess a raw, untamed energy while remaining precise in their composition. Every trace, every application of colour carries a decision within it, sometimes impulsive, sometimes deliberately placed. Her painting is not a pursuit of perfection, but a process of allowing, a dialogue between emotion and structure. Without darkness, there is no light; without resistance, there is no movement. Both poles depend on one another and come together on the canvas to form a vibrant field of tension.

In Adriana Bernet’s visual language, stillness, softness and introspection coexist with clarity, directness and movement. These contrasts flow into one another while remaining perceptible, shaping the expressive character of her different bodies of work. Her art reveals a balance between intuition and control, between letting go and focusing. The works feel immediate and raw, yet never arbitrary. They invite the viewer to expand their perception and experience the power of contrast.

Her inspiration comes from everyday life, nature, fragments of text and quotations from books, whose themes find their way into the painting process. Lines in all their forms, clear, blurred, hidden, accentuated, thin or broad, are a constant source of fascination for Adriana. Through them, she creates a connection to the canvas, a network that simultaneously establishes a connection with the viewer.

Adriana is a painter based in Oberkirch, Switzerland. Her artistic education has developed through self directed study as well as a variety of courses. Driven by a strong personal curiosity, she continually seeks to learn, evolve and expand her artistic practice.

My Intention

“My art emerges where opposites meet and become a shared visual language.”

In my work, I explore the interplay between surface and line, movement and stillness, density and lightness. These opposites do not contradict one another. They coexist and together shape the atmosphere of each painting.

For me, colour is more than surface. It becomes space, mood and energy. Intense fields of colour meet transparent layers, gestural marks encounter quiet surfaces, and cool nuances exist alongside warm tones. From these encounters, atmospheric pictorial spaces emerge, creating depth while remaining open.

My painting process is intuitive and physical. I work primarily on the floor, allowing control and chance to exist side by side. Lines, layers and visible traces of the process remain part of the work. I am not interested in perfect harmony, but in the moment when different forces come together and form a unity.

My paintings are not intended to explain or tell a specific story. They create spaces for perception and personal associations. What may initially appear contradictory can coexist and, through this very tension, develop a distinct sense of presence, depth and stillness.
